Our Ice House Tavern Benefit scheduled for June 21st
has been cancelled due to a conflict with the recently
scheduled Brooklyn Relay for Life on the same date
5/10/2008
Renovations on the shelter
house have begun. The building behind the house will be torn
down. Volunteers are needed to clean up the yard. There is a
lot of litter and weeds. Please contact me if you can help.
We are putting together a crew to work in the yard, so if
you are interested, e-mail us with your phone number so we
can let you know when.
We recently took in a small
white female dog from the Plainfield area. She is between
nine and ten years old and has bad teeth but she is very
sweet. Once again, a fosterer has fallen in love with the
dog they are caring for so if we do not find the owner,
“Tinkerbelle” is adopted. Tinkerbelle was destined to be
euthanized when the fosterer went to the animal service to
pick up a cat and she was told about the little doggie from
Brooklyn. Stray animals are still being taken to the
Oakwood Village’s Pepperidge Kennels so please, if you have
lost your dog or cat, please call the Brooklyn Police and
make a report. We are looking forward to serving the
community by sheltering all the stray dogs and cats
ourselves from our city. Meanwhile your dog or cat
especially, faces a good chance of being euthanized after
three days, if you do not report it or call 440-232-2964 to
see if they have your pet at Pepperidge Kennels.
Next month we are holding a
fundraiser at the Ice House Tavern to celebrate the signing
of our Lease Agreement with the City of Brooklyn. Tickets
are $15 for adults and reduced prices for students. There
will also be a car wash at Wally’s coming up on June 28th.
We’ve set a goal for ourselves of $35,000 this year that
will allow us to meet our budget and pay for items we need
to set up our Intake and Isolation areas. We will have to
purchase many of the items on our wish list by the time of
the expected completion of the project in September.
Preparations are underway for
the July 13, Hogs for Dogs Motorcycle Run, the Furry
Friends Festival August 31, and the Holiday Bazaar, December
6th. We are inviting vendors and other shelters
and rescues to some of these events. Contracts and
information about these events is available on our Events
page.
Volunteers who intend to care
for animals must attend Session I, Basic Training for
Animal Care Volunteers. Two sessions will be scheduled, one
in the afternoon and one in the evening. Dates will be
announced soon. We are also looking for a scheduler for
volunteers for animal care and for persons to assist the
Health and Welfare Committee Chairman. Please plan to attend
our next meeting, Thursday, May 22nd, at the
Senior Center.
Thanks for helping us, help
them!
